Utahime Iori – Jujutsu Kaisen

I made a red Hakama many, many years ago when I made my Sailor Mars Cosplay and wanted Rei Hinos miko outfit to go with it. For a local con I needed an outfit that I can make very fast so I chose Utahime. Jujutsu Kaisen is so stylish who doesn’t want to cosplay from it :p

It also felt good to cosplay a cool teacher character and not the standard school girl for a change.

I could use an old wig that I styled. The ribbon was fun and easy to sew. The rest was a bit more troublesome. I don’t know what I was thinking when I did the pleats alll those years back. I wasn’t happy with them, so I redid them. The top I also had to frankenstein together, since I also had to redo the sleeves and bleach everything because the fabric didn’t match 100%.

In the end I’m happy with the end result, especially considering I didn’t have to spent any money on it.

Since the costume isn’t so flashy we tried some practical effects for a little at home shooting and I’m glad some of them really worked.

Mariko Shinobu – Dear Brother (Oniisame e)

Dear Brother is a three volume Manga series by Ryoko Ikeda (best known for Rose of Versailles or Lady Oscar as it was known in Germany). The anime adaption is quite excellent with great art. I just love Mariko, she starts of as an antagonist and is oll kinds of crazy and dramatic.

I chose to cosplay her iconic violet dress because I adore the shape of it. It was very fun to sew and I hand embroidered the flowers on to make it a bit more extra.

This was a just for fun cosplay project I finished in november 2023 and took some quick photos at home.

Fuu – Samurai Champloo

Who doesn’t love Samurai Champloo? I already made a Mugen cosplay many years ago, but now I wanted something fun to wear for Animagic 2022 that wasn’t too complicated to make. Since animagic is in august I wanted something that’s easy to wear even in hot weather so not having to wear a wig is a big win.

I ordered fabric online which made it quite difficult to get the right colors. But it the end I found the best combination. The flower pattern is painted on. The sewing was very easy. I really recommend kimono as a sewing project for beginners. They look nice, are comfortable, they consist only of straight lines and you can find many patterns and tutorials online!

Yor Forger – Spy x Family

I couldn’t resist making a Yor cosplay after reading and watching Spy x Family. I challenged myself by wanting to make it as cheap as possible and without buying too much new material.

Here is where the fun started: The dress is made out of an old Bleach cosplay I made many years ago out of an second hand bed sheet. The red lining is from an old Naruto costume (akatsuki cloak). I made stamps out of eva foam and stamped the rose pattern on the fabric. It was time-consuming but worked very well. For the boot and hand covers I actually had to invest some money and got those leggings that look like leather pants and modified them. The headpiece is made from leftofter golden fabric, the roses are fabric roses painted with acrylics and the stabby things were made out of chopsticks and painted. The pendant is made out of worbla.

The hardest part was getting the fit right since the fabric is does not stretch at all. The neckpiece was especially time-consuming because I sewed it by hand and it took a few tries to make it fit right.

The wig is an old wig that I have used for different costumes (Maya, Sailor Mars, Lust, …). It’s too long for Yor but it looked good enough 🙂

Chika Fujiwara – Kaguya-sama: Love is war

I normally aren’t into romcoms but Kaguya-sama is just *chefskiss* It’s so genuinely funny and has so many great characters.

I love the simple design of the school uniform and had enough black fabric at home so it was a quick decission to start sewing. One of my favourite cosplays to wear!

Alita / Gally – Battle Angel Alita /Gunm

Whoo! Battle Angel Alita was one of the very first manga I read and made me fall in love with the medium. It was a dream to cosplay such an iconic character.

The arms and knee guards are made from EVA foam and didn’t turn out that bad considering it was the second time working with it. I wish to redo the parts in the future since they have some wear and tear after three cons.

Zuko – Avatar

I have to confess I was really late to the party…When I finally watched Avatar I loved it so much (who doesn’t?!) I couldn’t stop watching.

Of course I had to do a costume and of course it had to be my angry, stupid firebender Zuko. The red and brown fabric is that wonderful cheap fabric you used to get for 2,99€/m and the rest was from my stash, even the wig was an old one so I could make this cosplay very cheap. Yay!

I made this costume for Animagic 2019 and it is very comfortable to wear. I loved doing a male character after quite some time.

Selphie Tilmitt Seed uniform – Final Fantasy 8

After redoing the classic Selphie costumes I had to do the Seed uniform, too! I made this costume in 2021. The skirt was fun to pattern and turned out really good. Everthing is fully lined. The silver patterns are hand drawn. The clip for the tie is made out of thick paper, the emblem simply printed out and glued on. Cheap but works!

I had so much fun taking the photos in our improvised living room ‘photo studio’ and hope I’ll find a good opportunity to wear the cosplay again.

Selphie Tilmitt Seed Cadet uniform – Final Fantasy 8

This was another fun project. The Seed cadet uniform was one of my very first costumes I made. In 2017 I remade it from scratch with better fabric and more attention to make it as acurate to the source material as possible

Styling the wig drove me crazy and it took me a few more years to get to a point were I was happy with the styling. The patterns on the shoulders are hand painted on. The silver bias tape was a pain to work with, I wish I had opted for better quality. One of my favourite part of the costume are the shoes straight from the early 2000s.

Selphie Tilmitt – Final Fantasy 8

In 2021 remade one of my very first costumes I made back in 2004: Selphie Tilmitt. I tried my best to make it as acurate as possible. It really helped that I found this nice jeans fabric which looks great and was nice to work with. Every stripe of the dress is a seperate part, so while it the dress looks quite simple it took quite some work. The necklace is made from worbla and the the zipper piece EVA foam.

The hardest parts for me was the wig as I avoided wig styling for the like first 20 or so years of me cosplaying…

I’m so happy I was able to make this costume again after so many years and see that I managed to improve my skills and do justice to one of my favourite characters!
